SAN ANGELO Herbert Alvin Fuessel, child of God, husband, father, grandpa, gg'pa, finished his journey here, sitting in his recliner he entered into the glories of heaven, his final destination. Herbert, 84 years old, was born April 8, 1927, in Sandoval, Texas, to Ludwig and Lena Meier Fuessel, the fourth of five children. He attended schools in Mereta and Eola, Texas. Herbert went into the armed services from August 1945 until March 1947, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, communications division, during the occupation of Europe, spending most of his time in Italy. Upon his return from the military, Herbert continued his life as a farmer, first as a share-cropper and then, two farmers wanting to retire asked him to purchase their farms. He farmed in the Wall area for many years, raising livestock, cotton and maize, later subdividing his farms for housing. Herbert's lifelong passion was his love of his Lord and Savior and loved sharing the Word. He desired that everyone would know his Jesus. He served as a Sunday school superintendent, treasurer, elder and president of the congregation at Mount Calvary Lutheran in Eola. He was a founder and elder of the first charismatic church in San Angelo, Way of the Cross, later merging and becoming the Tree of Life Church. He also served as an elder at Jesus Christ Church in Ballinger and Victory Christian Center in San Angelo. Herbert loved singing and was invited to sing in the Twin Mountain Tonemen group and did this for several years. He also took voice lessons from a good friend, Mary Mitchell. In 1952, he married Lorine Spieker and they shared 59 years and six months of marriage. They were blessed with two sons. They lived in the Mereta and Wall communities. Herbert was active in the Wall school district as a trustee and president of the PTA. He was always supportive in furthering others' education. Hebert's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his joy and delight and he wanted then to know his Lord Jesus Christ. He loved singing to them playing his harmonica and telling them his "made-up" stories. They loved his imitation of Donald Duck. Survivors include his wife, Lorine Spieker Fuessel; sons and their wives, Rick and Jan Fuessel of Eldorado, Terry and Christina Fuessel of Mertzon; grandchildren, Whitney Fuessel of Houston, Lindsay and Neal Franks of Corsicanan, Mandi and Jason Evans, Tiffani and Lane Newsom of Mertzon and Terry Christopher Fuessel of San Angelo; and great-grandchildren Rheily Garcia and Addison Garcia of Houston, Lily Franks of Corsicana, Logan, Alora and Hope Evans of San Angelo, Aubrey Newsom of Mertzon. He is also survived by one sister, Gertrude Eschberger of Taylor, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Victory Christian Church with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. II Tim 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Jer. 17:7, 8, 9 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its root by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; biut its leaves will be green and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.
