Herman Lewis Epperson, 76, of Rustburg, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Jean Ann Burks Epperson. Born November 5, 1935, in Gladys, he was the son of the late Leslie Eugene and Stella Clay Epperson.

He was owner/operator of Epperson's Upholstery with a great reputation for his meticulous work. He took pride in his work. Customers came from near and far to have him reupholster their furniture. He was very instrumental in securing the land and supporting the development of Clearview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, usher, former Sunday School teacher and charter member. He loved his weekly visitation where he shared his faith and love of God with others. His smile and quick wit will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We have suffered a great loss in his untimely death. If you did not know him as a person you have missed out on a fantastic character. He never met a stranger and had special fun nicknames for many of his family and friends. He was also proud to have served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He was a great man that led by example and never expected anything in return for his many acts of kindness. His tolerance and dedication should be a lesson to us all.

In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Reynolds and two brothers, William (Bill) Epperson and Herbert Epperson.

In addition to his wife, Herman is survived by three daughters, Sandra Epperson Garrett, Linda Kay Epperson and Pam Epperson Coles and her husband Reggie, all of Rustburg; one son, Kevin Lewis Epperson of Buckingham; four brothers, James Epperson and his wife Janie of Lynchburg, Norman (Buck) Epperson and his wife Linda of Danville, Walter Epperson and his wife Gail of Ruther Glen and Morgan (Pete) Epperson of Gladys; two sisters, Judy Cook and her husband Carroll of Lynchburg and Evelyn Cook and her husband Glenn of Seneca, SC; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, close friends and family.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, at Clearview Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Green and the Rev. Terry Cook officiating. Interment will follow at the Clearview Baptist Church Cemetery where the Seymour Johnson Air Force Honor Guard will present Military Honors. The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Monday, August 27, at Clearview Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Widow's Fund of Clearview Baptist Church or the Clearview Christian School.
