Obituary

Herman Townsend, 81, went to be with his Lord on June 30, 2014. He was born in Abilene, Texas on May 31, 1933 to the late Earnest and Mary (Molly) Townsend. He was a long time resident of Florence, Texas and a member of Community Baptist Church. Before coming to Florence he was a cook at The Red Barn in Abilene. He had tremendous love for his family and always remembered birthdays and anniversaries, including his great great nieces and nephews. Herman Townsend, 81, went to be with his Lord on June 30, 2014. He was born in Abilene, Texas on May 31, 1933 to the late Earnest and Mary (Molly) Townsend.

He was a long time resident of Florence, Texas and a member of Community Baptist Church. Before coming to Florence he was a cook at The Red Barn in Abilene. He had tremendous love for his family and always remembered birthdays and anniversaries, including his great great nieces and nephews. When Herman came to Florence, he became known for driving his "car" (the lawn mower) around town and playing dominoes for hours at a time. Herman's love for games, along with his smile and laugh will always be remembered.

Herman is preceded in death by his brothers, Grant and wife Myrtle, Leroy and first wife Delois and second wife Delores, Chester, George, and Merl; and niece Evelyn (Townsend) Davis . He is survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Townsend of Belton; seven nephews, three nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with funeral services to follow. Interment will be conducted at Florence Cemetery in Florence, Texas.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the care provided by the staff at Scott and White Hospital.
