Herman Bowdie Ward, Jr., age 66, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was born in Newnan, GA and was a lifelong resident of Hampton. In 2013, Bowdie retired from NASA. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. His interests included being a member of the HOG Motorcycle Club. Preceding him in rest are his parents, Herman Bowdie Ward, Sr and Ann Lucille Ward; and brother, Kenneth I. Ward. Surviving members of his family include his sister, Shirley Ward Webster and husband Stuart of Verona; nephews and nieces, Brian N. Webster and wife Kate of Amherst, Anna W. McDaniel and husband...
Herman Bowdie Ward, Jr., age 66, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was born in Newnan, GA and was a lifelong resident of Hampton.

In 2013, Bowdie retired from NASA. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. His interests included being a member of the HOG Motorcycle Club.

Preceding him in rest are his parents, Herman Bowdie Ward, Sr and Ann Lucille Ward; and brother, Kenneth I. Ward. Surviving members of his family include his sister, Shirley Ward Webster and husband Stuart of Verona; nephews and nieces, Brian N. Webster and wife Kate of Amherst, Anna W. McDaniel and husband Aaron of Poquoson, Carrie J. Walker and husband Cameron of Blackridge; great nephews and nieces, Connor P. Webster, Fischer McDaniel, Patrick Ward, Kenneth Wayne Walker, Saylor McDaniel, Abigail Webster; and lifelong friend – brother, "Poncho" (John Thomson).

The family extends gratitude and a heartfelt thank you to Mary Ann and Robert Ketterman for their love and comfort they provided to Bowdie during these past months.

A time of gathering and remembrance will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Poquoson Community Center, 49 Odd Road, Poquoson, VA 23662.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the .

Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories of Bowdie and words of condolences with the family.
