Herminia Martinez

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great, great-grandmother peacefully passed away on September 27, 2010 at age 103. She was surrounded by family during her last breaths.

She was born on May 18, 1907, in the city of Sayula, in Jalisco Mexico to Agapito and Marianna Coyote. She also met and married her late husband, Francisco Martinez in Jalisco. They made their home and raised six children in Guadalajara.

In the late 1940s, Francisco and Herminia immigrated to Raymondville, Texas with their children and grandchildren. There, they had their seventh child. After spending a short time in Texas, the Martinez families settled in and adjacent to East Los Angeles, California.

Herminia was an amazingly loving woman who inspired her family with her emotional strength and physical vigor. She kept busy working on her feet most of her life in various occupations as shoemaker, seamstress, store clerk while remaining an exceptional homemaker and cook. She was also an avid and outstanding rose gardener. She loved being with her family and enjoyed passing on her love of sewing and crocheting to her many great grandchildren.

Her beloved husband, Francisco, passed away in 1970, and Herminia spent decades continuing to care for her family.

She will be missed dearly by her family and everyone who cared for her.

Herminia is survived by three daughters, Antonia Murillo, Martha Velo and Bertha Everett. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

"I was so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow." Jackie Harlow (n.hollywood, CA)
