Hester was born August 23, 1916 in Petersburg, VA the 8th child of Sarah and Fred T. Harwell of Petersburg. VA At 17 Hester moved to NY to join her sister Mae. She loved the fun and party atmosphere of New York and meeting people so much that she decided to stay. She worked at Bellevue Hospital in New York for 25 years until she retired in November, 1982. Hester Louise Davenport age 95 peacefully departed this world on March 15, 2012. Hester was born August 23, 1916 in Petersburg, VA the 8th child of Sarah and Fred T. Harwell of Petersburg. VA

At 17 Hester moved to NY to join her sister Mae. She loved the fun and party atmosphere of New York and meeting people so much that she decided to stay. She worked at Bellevue Hospital in New York for 25 years until she retired in November, 1982. She loved sharing stories of her nights there with family and friends.

There were two important men in her life, Clarence Davenport whom she married and Bradley Wilson, her companion later. Both are now deceased.

Hester loved to travel visiting such places as Bermuda, Hawaii, Italy, Morocco and many other places in the US and abroad. She loved the friends she traveled with and all of their joint adventures.

Hester had one son who preceded her in death, Melvin Harwell of Petersburg, VA. Hester leaves behind her sister Sarah Latimer of Flushing, NY, daughter-in-law Mary B. Harwell in Petersburg, VA,, two grandsons, Ronald L. Harwell (Vera) of Ettrick, VA and Thomas B. Harwell of Petersburg, VA, thirteen great-grandchildren, Bryant Lee, Brandan Bowles, Tiffany Worsham, Jared and Aaron Harwell, Danielle Oliver, Taylor and Maximillan Harwell, Sommer Hewitt, Desedra and Tremaine Pettaway, Bradley Davis and Bridgette Stewart, as well as many cousins, and devoted nieces and nephews who will miss her laughter and stories.
