"Larry" Hilario Garduno
"Larry" Hilario Garduno, age 68, was called to Heaven by our Lord on Friday, February 8, 2013. He was born on December 10, 1944 to Hilario and Alice Garduno in Las Vegas, New Mexic . He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and good friend to many, who loved him and will miss him greatly.
On his 17th birthday in 1961, he left Las Vegas to join the United States Army. He was sent to Fort Ord, California for basic training.
He retired as a First Sergeant from Fort Carson 4th Engineers as a combat engineer after 22 years of devoted service from the U.S. Army, on February 28, 1983. He served with distinction and honor in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and was a proud Vietnam Veteran.
He received the following medals and awards during his years of military service: Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct 7th awards, National Defense Service Media, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars, NCO professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Drill Sergeants Badge, Parachutist Badge, Presidential Unit Citation with 2 Bronze Leafs, Army Meritorious Unit Citation, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
Following his retirement from the military in 1983, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier, retiring in 2002.
Larry was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for several years and was a past Grand Knight. He was currently serving as its treasurer. He was also an active member of the VFW and St. Dominic Catholic Church. He was a major fundraiser for the building and construction of the church. He had lots of good friends everywhere he went and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He loved his classic cars, his: 1970 Chevy Chevelle and his 1971 Lincoln Continental. He enjoyed washing and taking excellent care of his cars. He attended numerous classic car shows with his family and good friends. Larry also enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on his fish pond and making puzzles as a hobby.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Lorraine, of Widefield, daughter Sheryl Abeyta, son Larry, Jr., grandson Brandon and granddaughter Mariah Abeyta, all of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by his sisters, Pita and husband Jesus Garcia of Rio Rancho, NM, Caroline and husband Tom Roane of Hobbs, NM, Rita and husband John Martinez of Santa Fe, NM, Lita and husband Jim Saunders of Tucson, AZ, Lorraine Leger of Las Vegas, NV, Elaine and husband Scott Wilber of Springfield, VA, Joanna Garduno of Las Vegas, NM and brothers, Alfonso of Las Vegas, NM, Joe of Denver, CO, Leonard and wife Eloise of Santa Fe, NM, Rick and wife Carla of Las Vegas, NM, Ron and wife Bonnie of Rio Rancho, NM. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other family members who will all miss his quick and witty sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his parents Hilario and Alice Garduno, brother Lawrence Garduno and sister Geraldine Garduno.
A viewing will take place on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Fountain, CO on Highway 85/87. A rosary service will follow immediately after. A Christian burial mass will be held at St. Dominic given by Father Dunn on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Fountain, CO.

It was so sad to see my cousing Larry in the obits today. I had no idea he had passed away. He was such a beautiful spirit and it was so wonderful to see him at the picnic this summer. I am glad we got to see him again. Lorraine take care of yourself and I am so sorry for you loss. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
