Hilda Maplesden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2017.

Hilda May "Jackie" Maplesden, beloved wife, mother, and friend, peacefully entered into the presence of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
Hilda was born in Brooklyn, NY to Howard A. and Ruth B. Kinch. She graduated from Kingston High School, Cum Laude in Kingston, NY in 1943. Although Hilda was her legal name, a high school teacher told her that she looked more like a Jackie and she eagerly chose this as her new name.
Jackie met her husband, Richard B. "Dick" Maplesden the summer of 1943 and they were married on V-J Day, September 2, 1945. They remained blissfully married for 58 years until his death in 2004. Their life together was one of service to God and others through active involvement in their churches and hosting countless get-togethers in their home.
Dick and Jackie owned and operated an on-location carpet cleaning business in Santa Monica, CA for 22 years. He was the "outside" man and she was the "inside" man. Both were very active in the state and national carpet cleaning trade association and Jackie wrote many "people" columns for their state magazine. She was the only woman to receive the Joe Laurino Award for the Most Supportive Spouse. After retiring to Three Rivers, CA in 1984, the association handed out annual awards in their names.
God, music, art and words were a huge part of Jackie's life. She sang in church choirs with Dick for 40 years, was a BSF discussion leader, led neighborhood Bible studies, worked with AWANA at Grace Community Church, learned how to play the organ at the age of 40, learned to paint and draw at 59, and encouraged good grammar wherever she went!
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Maplesden, her brother, Don Kinch, many nieces and nephews, and her "like-a-daughter", Amanda Ingram. Her husband Dick and her brother William Kinch preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 @ 11:30 a.m. at Grace Community Church, 424 N. Lovers Lane, Visalia, California. A lunch reception will follow in the church's Student Center where her artwork will be displayed.

Jackie was one of the smartest and wittiest people I have ever known. That mischievous twinkle in her eye was a delight. I admired her spunk and willingness to take on new challenges. I'm going to miss her but I'm left with great memories that bring a smile to my face.
