A Celebration of her Life will be held Monday, February 28 from 4 – 7 pm at Steamhouse Lounge at 11th and West Peachtree. The family asks that all attendees wear their favorite hat to honor Mrs. Ney. The grave side service will take place at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs 30328 on February 28 at 11 am.
Mrs. Ney was born November 20, 1924, in Stillmore, Georgia, to Sarah and Morris Popkin.
She graduated from University Hospital School of Nursing in Augusta, Georgia in 1946 and became a private duty nurse. She married Robert W. Ney on December 1, 1946, in Augusta. After having her four children, Mrs. Ney served as the camp nurse for her brothers' summer camp, Blue Star, for many years.
After raising her four children, Mrs. Ney opened a flea market store, Godmother's, in which she sold antiques and other collectibles. She was always recognizable in her store, donning a hand-made, brightly-colored hat to greet her customers. Over the years, she used the proceeds from her store to donate thousands of dollars to Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem.
Mrs. Ney enjoyed nothing more than spending time watching her beloved Atlanta Braves, but most of all, she enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ney was always the most boisterous supporter at her grandchildren's and children's events.
Mrs. Ney became well-known as the "hat lady" not only for wearing her hand-made hats but also for handing out her "Hilda Originals," miniature hand-made hats worn as lapel pins. No one who met Mrs. Ney will ever forget her unique spirit and lust for life.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Ney; her daughter and son-in-law, Stefanie and Sergio Stadler of Atlanta; her daughter and son-in-law, Kim Ney and Wayne Howell of Gustavus, Alaska; her son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Karen Ney of Atlanta; her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Tim Leiter of San Jose, California; her grandchildren, Erik, Bree, Avi, and Chere Stadler of Atlanta, Ryan and Nikki Stadler of New York City, Travis and Jason Leiter of San Jose, California; her great-grandchildren Asher and Lili Stadler of Atlanta; and her sister, Annette Bolgla of Atlanta. The family would like to especially thank Joyce Holloway and Jackie Carter, our mother's angels.
Mrs. Ney was preceded in death by her sister, Francis and brothers, Ben, Harry and Herman. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hadassah or the Alzeimer'Association.
