Hiram Lee Blake was born at the Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, D. C. on December 30, 1930 to Bannard and Mae Christina (Cosgray) Blake who resided in Lake Barcroft in Arlington, Virginia. He was the youngest of four siblings Merle, Helen and Gene Blake all of whom preceded him in death.
He attended Augusta Military Academy for 5 years and served two years in the Korean Invasion from 1952 to 1954. In 1952 he met and married his devoted wife Mary Lou (Williams) Blake and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on May 27, 2012. He has four beautiful and wonderful children, Deborah Lee Teta, Sherri Jeanne Kellermann (passed away November 3, 2005), Michael Raymond Blake and Christina Marie Blake (Pratt). He has six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Hiram was a great sports advocate, he held season tickets and attended the Washington Redskins football games for 45 years, he probably missed three home games during this period. He also held NASCAR tickets and attended the Daytona 500 for 25 years and never missed a season during that period of time. He loved all types of sports. Weekends at the Blake household were sports only so you knew what type of entertainment you would be receiving if invited to their home.
Hiram was always interested in American History and could spend hours upon hours discussing it with anyone that would listen to him and was a great help to his children with their school assignment. Music was in his blood and he was always listening to Country Music and especially Blue Grass when available. His favorite artists were Hank Williams, Sr. and George Jones. After his children were born, he became a fan of Rock and Roll.
He will always be remembered for his great Faith and he read the Bible many times from cover to cover. Unfortunately throughout his life he was plagued with illness but never waivered from his Faith in the Good Lord. He will be truly missed by his family and friends and may he rest in peace.
