Homer Douglas Rushing, Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy (Ret.), age 68, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012. He was born in Seguin, Texas to Alice (Krenz) and Homer H. Rushing on November 21, 1943.

He was preceded in death by his father, the late Homer H. Rushing, Major, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) and his stepmother, Lucille Rushing.

He is survived by his sisters, Brenda Harrelson and husband, Marshall and Linda Bone; nephews, Justin Harrelson, Art Hembree, Philip Hembree and Russell Hembree and his wife, Melissa.

Homer was a retired Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, an avid bird watcher and a member of the Audubon Society. He attended the University of Texas where he acquired his Master's Degree in English Literature.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2012 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.

Graveside Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, November 5, 2012 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach in San Antonio, Texas 78209.
