Vernon Hosea Warren, 93, devoted father and grandfather, passed away in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Hosea was born in Hico, Texas, on March 31, 1920, to Vernon Archard and Bessie Warren. Hosea was the valedictorian of his high school and graduated from Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy in El Paso, Texas, in 1942. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy. He married Nellie Sparks on December 2, 1942, and they traveled to Chicago by train after the wedding reception. Hosea was commissioned to study meteorology for the Navy at the University of Chicago and Nellie would finish her degree there in economics....
Vernon Hosea Warren, 93, devoted father and grandfather, passed away in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Hosea was born in Hico, Texas, on March 31, 1920, to Vernon Archard and Bessie Warren.

Hosea was the valedictorian of his high school and graduated from Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy in El Paso, Texas, in 1942. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy. He married Nellie Sparks on December 2, 1942, and they traveled to Chicago by train after the wedding reception. Hosea was commissioned to study meteorology for the Navy at the University of Chicago and Nellie would finish her degree there in economics.

A World War II veteran , Lieutenant Warren served in the Pacific Fleet. He was decorated with a Bronze Star for meritorious service successively as Aerological Officer at Biak, at Morotai, with Patrol Bombing Squaudron ONE HUNDRED ONE, aboard the U.S.S. ORCA and rendered invaluable service in analyzing and forecasting weather for forces of Aircraft, SEVENTH Fleet. After the war, Hosea re-enlisted in the Navy in 1949 and served as Officer in Charge, Naval Aerological Station, Attu, Alaska and later in Kodiak, Alaska at the Navy Weather Central.

Hosea returned to civilian life and after a short career in the oil business, he worked for 50 years at the Prudential Insurance Company of America in El Paso, Austin, and Houston. He was the Manager of the Austin and Houston Ordinary Agencies and served as the Director of Agencies of the Southwestern Home Office in Houston. He also was a past President of the Houston Association of Life Underwriters and was a mentor to many who knew him.

A devoted churchman, Hosea was a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Houston and served on the vestry as Senior Warden and was also Senior Warden at the Church of the Good Shepard in Austin. Fluent in Spanish, Hosea enjoyed his mission trips to Honduras. An avid golfer, Hosea was a long-time member of Pine Forest Country Club and also made 5 holes-in-one!
Hosea was preceded in death by his loving wife Nellie. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Todd, Ellen Lee and husband Randy; five grandchildren, Shannon Mills, and husband Jason, Alexis Goodson, Becky Lee, Kevin Lee and wife Natalie, Robert Todd and wife Kasey; and seven great-grandchildren, Grayson, Jackson, James, Warren, Emma, Kyle, and Brady. He is also survived by his loving Aunt Oleta Aiken, and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on December 19 , 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 12535 Perthshire Road, Houston, Texas 77024.
