Hoyt R. Young, Sr. 81, of Ooltewah, TN, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at his residence. A native of Fort Payne, Alabama, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 60 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and was co-owner of Hardwood Pallets for 27 years. He was an officer and instrumental in building East Brainerd Youth Athletic Association and was a 50 year member of the Masons, Scottish Rites and Alhambra Shrine and was a current member of the Fidelity Lodge #558 in Harrison, Tennessee. Hoyt R. Young, Sr. 81, of Ooltewah, TN, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at his residence. A native of Fort Payne, Alabama, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 60 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and was co-owner of Hardwood Pallets for 27 years. He was an officer and instrumental in building East Brainerd Youth Athletic Association and was a 50 year member of the Masons, Scottish Rites and Alhambra Shrine and was a current member of the Fidelity Lodge #558 in Harrison, Tennessee. He was a member of the Meadowview Baptist Church and the Shepherd Sunday School Class and was the son of the late William "Billy" and Linnie I. Young. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford Young and Paul Young; three sisters, Mamie Thrasher, Geneva Roden and Marie Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Violet Young; two sons, Ray Young, Ricky (Debbie) Young; grandsons, Len (Tosha) Young and Lamar Young; great-grandsons, Lane and Luke Young; great-granddaughter, Addison Young; sister, Nelda (David) Pettyjohn; brother-in-laws, James (Betty) Card and Jerry Card; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Al Miller and the Rev. Michael Combs officiating. Interment will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Meadowview Baptist Church, 10715 Ooltewah-Georgetown Road, Georgetown TN 37336; Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 or to one's favorite charity. Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
