With sadness we announce the passing of Hugh Anderson, Wednesday April 22, 2015 at Port Alberni, BC. Hugh was born 25 Sept 1933, the only child of Alan & May (Bolduc) Anderson in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He was raised in Yorkton, Saskatchewan where his father owned a hardware store. In 1952, while at university he met and married Doreen May Knepp. He graduated with a degree in history and political science, served as a navigator in the RCAF and worked in the insurance industry for many years, retiring from Thunderbird Insurance in 1998.
Hugh served as a Liberal Member of Parliament for Comox-Alberni from 1974-1979. He served the community of Port Alberni for many years as a talk-show host on CJAV, on the Port Alberni Harbour Commission, as an alderman of the City of Port Alberni, as the Chair of the Regional District of Alberni Clayoquot. He was named a Freeman of the City in 2001.
Hugh loved life and was a passionate Canadian. He also enjoyed his animals and automobiles. In his last years he volunteered at the local SPCA, Beaver Creek Community Club and Literacy Alberni.
Hugh was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Doreen, in 2010 and grandson David in 1978. He is survived by daughters Leslie Tomczyk, Cathie Van Horne (Collin) and son Alan (Leslie), as well as 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. We will miss him dearly.
A service will be held at 1 p.m on Wednesday April 29, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4815 Compton Road with Bishop Larry Johannessen conducting. Luncheon to follow immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hugh's memory may be made to Literacy Alberni Society, 5100 Tebo Ave, Port Alberni, BC., V9 Y5Y6.

Alan - I am so sad to read of your father's passing.. He was a very nice man. My mother knew him, I heard many nice things.. they shared their love of the Liberal party.. and so does my son Michael.. he knew your Dad as well. He came to my place of work (Yates) to make arrangements when your mother passed away. He was very, very sad at that time. I know that he will be happy that he is now with her.
