So sorry to hear of Hugo's passing. I am a cousin and haven't seen Hugo since I was a child many years ago. My Grandfather was Harry B. Melvoin, his Dad's brother. My Mother June Pearlman died 1 year ago at 93. We live in Mesa, Arizona. I am now 71 and actually was going to call Hugo to see if he or any of you know where the Melvoin famly came from originally in Europe. My son, Damon Stevens went to Austria a couple of years ago and was trying to find out. My name is Judy Stevens, 480-709-3740. If you have any info please let me know. Again, I am sorry for your loss. I know Hugo was a fine man and did many good thngs in life. The family often talked about him. I miss my Grandfather so much. The Melvoin brothers and sister Rose were wonderful. I have many great memories of them when I was young. Hope to hear from someone. It is so sad how families move so far apart and some lose connection over the years.

Dear Lois,
I can't say Hugo was a dear friend but I knew him for most of my business career and afterwards. You may recall we would come to your yard many years during the Christmas Bird Count and I would see him from to time to time on other occasions as well. I had always known him to be a hugely warm and gracious human being, always a smile, and a word of encouragement, and "so nice to see you". A truly fine guy - he'll be remembered.

Dear Lois and family, I am so saddened to hear of Hugo's death. I remember the last time that I saw him. He dropped by the Cameron cabin to fish the big hole and to watch his son and grandson who had fished up the other side of the river. We had a great conversation and then he climbed down to the river climbing over logs, rocks, etc. to do a little fishing himself. He was an adventuresone soul and I appreciated our friendship. Dear Lois,
Dear Marilyn,
This is sad news just received from Jeff.
My heart grieves.
Hugo's father was Charley, brother to Sidney, who was my father.
His love, wisdom, and wry humor will not be forgotten.

Our dear Lois,
Hugo and you have meant such a great dealto us and our family over many years -- time spent during summers at our cabins with the kids and Hugo running around photographing them, talking about the arts and ballet, Hugo giving Luke fishing tips, sharing both true and farfetched fishing stories and tasting many single malts. He was a mentor an colleague to me and both of you became very close friends. We will miss him greatly and send our love and deepfelt loss and prayers to you.

Our Condolences to your family. He was such a wonderful and special person. Although I only talked to him a few times while he was visiting/fishing with my dad, there was one time I will always remember. We were standing in the yard and we were listening to a bird sing. Hugo said to me, do you know what kind of bird that is? Well I didn't have a clue. He told me what kind it was and other interesting facts. I thought that was just wonderful. Something I never forgot.

Dear Family, Somehow my earlier message didnt get posted. Again I say how I have enjoyed being a member (though distant) of the family. Hugo's newsletters were always an inspiration showing his courage, his great optomism and his humor. Please know that my thoughts have been with you constanly during these sad days and that Hughey will always occupy a special niche niche in my heart.
Love to a very special family.

To Hugo's most dearest Lois and Family,
Janet and I can't express adequately in words how we feel your loss. As one who's traveled far and wide across States and Continents, and from his fish camps to my fish camps, and shared accommodations, meals, fine wines and fine whiskeys with Hugo, all in the pursuit of the camaraderie that is fly fishing, I will miss his presence and friendship. On the other hand, I will always have his large Spirit with me and always will until I meet him around the bend to fish together again.
