Obituary

Ida Mae Bartholomew, 94, of Mead, WA entered the eternal rest of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, December 3, 2011. Ida Mae was born November 16, 1917 in Carrington, North Dakota to Patrick James and Neva Leona Carr. She was the fifth of eight children that survived to adulthood. She grew up on a farm that did not have running water or electricity and attended a one-room school through the sixth grade. Ida Mae moved to Spokane in 1937 and attended Brown-Keating Secretarial School. Upon completion of her studies she went to work for Carstens Packing Company in Spokane. Ida Mae Bartholomew, 94, of Mead, WA entered the eternal rest of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, December 3, 2011. Ida Mae was born November 16, 1917 in Carrington, North Dakota to Patrick James and Neva Leona Carr. She was the fifth of eight children that survived to adulthood. She grew up on a farm that did not have running water or electricity and attended a one-room school through the sixth grade. Ida Mae moved to Spokane in 1937 and attended Brown-Keating Secretarial School. Upon completion of her studies she went to work for Carstens Packing Company in Spokane. At Carstens she met Clarence Wilburn (Willy) Bartholomew to whom she was married on October 24, 1942. They bought a house on West Boone Ave in Spokane in 1943 and lived there until 1951. In the fall of 1951 they moved to the Mead property into a house built by her husband, Willy. Ida Mae lived in the Mead house until her death. She was married to Willy for 56 years until Willy's death on April 30, 1999. Ida Mae worked at Carstens until just before their first child was born. After that she was a full time mother and homemaker. She was a member of Northview Bible Church at the time of her death and previously attended Knox Presbyterian, Whitworth Presbyterian and Colbert Methodist churches. Ida Mae is survived by her youngest sister Helen (Peggy) Bell, her three sons, James of Lake Stevens, WA, Bradley and wife Patricia of Vancouver, WA, Craig and wife LaVonne of Spokane, WA, granddaughters Lori Bartholomew of Beaverton, OR, Heidi (Adam) Phelps of Spokane, WA, Hannah (Jonathan) Ahern of Spokane, WA, grandson Brian Bartholomew of Vancouver, WA, and great grandson Joshua Bartholomew.

Charitable donations may be made in her honor to the Union Gospel Mission of Spokane.

Memorial service will be held in the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 West Wellesley, Spokane, WA 99205 at 11a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2011.
