Ida B. Popowitz, a resident of Bowie, Maryland, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Fernbrook Manor Assisted Living in Odenton, Maryland. She had just turned 92. She was the widow of the late Frank Popowitz of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and daughter of the late Mateo and Giacinta Delfini of McKeesport. Mrs. Popowitz was born in Glassport, Pa. in 1920 and was graduated from Glassport High School (now South Allegheny) in 1939. During her high school years she excelled as a letter girl in basketball. Ida B. Popowitz, a resident of Bowie, Maryland, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Fernbrook Manor Assisted Living in Odenton, Maryland. She had just turned 92.

She was the widow of the late Frank Popowitz of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and daughter of the late Mateo and Giacinta Delfini of McKeesport.

Mrs. Popowitz was born in Glassport, Pa. in 1920 and was graduated from Glassport High School (now South Allegheny) in 1939. During her high school years she excelled as a letter girl in basketball.

She was a nurse's aide at Mckeesport Hospital for 20 years until her retirement in 1984. During the World War II years, she had contributed to the war effort while employed at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in East Pittsburgh, Pa. Mrs. Popowitz was also an active volunteer at St. Mary's school on Olilve St. in McKeesport, as well as a capable homemaker, avid reader and most loving and teaching mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Popowitz is survived by her son, Paul Popowitz of Alexandria, Virginia; daughter Juliana Anderson of Bowie, Maryland; and granddaughter Marie Frances Popowitz of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by daughter Frances Nadine Cole of McKeesport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, November 23, at 10:30 at Ascension Catholic Church, 12700 Lanham Severn Road Bowie, MD. Internment will be private.
