Ila McSween Antoine, born October 14, 1923, died August 9th, 2017 at Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitation. A native of Mobile, she was preceded in death by her father John N McSween, mother Effie Everett McSween, her brother Wilmer R McSween, granddaughter Anne Robinson, husbands Ralph D. Herring and Nello J. Antoine. Ila is survived by her brother Clyde McSween (Elizabeth) of Puyallup Washington, two sons Michael D. Herring (Phyllis) of Bamburg, SC., Myles S. Herring, Sr. (Susan) and Barbara B Herring of Mobile, AL. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Ila graduated from Murphy High School and The University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She had worked many years at Brookley Air Force Base as secretary to the base commander, followed by three years civil service in Japan. In 1962 she transferred to the Army War College, Washington, D.C., as the Administrator to the Commanding General. Upon her retirement in 1984, she returned to Mobile. Ila and her husband Nello frequently traveled on Worldwide excursions with the South Baldwin Travelers. They enjoyed sailing as members of the Lake Forest Yaught Club. As a member of a Mobile Mystic Society, Ila celebrated Mardi Gras with great enthusiasm through her 92nd birthday. Services will be held Saturday, August 12 with visitation at 1:00pm followed by Final Rites at 2:00pm at ST Lukes Episcopal Church, 1050 Azalea Road, Mobile, AL. with burial at Pine Crest Cemetery. Officiant is Dr. Rvev. Ken W. Cumbie. Following the burial a condolence reception will be held at St Lukes. In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to St Lukes Episcopal Church, 1050 Azalea Road, Mobile, AL. 36693 or St Paul Episcopal Chapel, PO Box 2, Magnolia Springs, AL 36555.

Mrs. Antoine always had a smile and laughing at any time I spoke to her during any of our Mystic Society events. I will miss her! Prayers to her family.
