Millie is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George B. Bradford, Jr.; parents Martha Horstman Shea and John F. Shea; and several brothers and one sister.
Millie was born December 11, 1916 in Holyoke, MA and passed away December 28, 2012 in Bossier City, peacefully at her daughter's home.
Surviving her are her son, George B. Bradford, III, daughter, Marilyn Bradford Thomas and husband, Kenneth; grandchildren, Kristopher, Adrianne Bradford, Amber Bradford, Keary Thomas, Khieran Thomas and Kayne Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Rayne Duque, Brendan Bradford and Emma Shea Bradford.
Millie started working at age 17 in 1934 at the American Tissue Mills in Holyoke for 35 cents an hour for a total of $14 per week! She continued to work there until 1951 when she got a Civil Service job at the Welfare Department in Springfield for $50 per week! It was during this time she met "Brad" as he was known to his Air Force buddies. Thus the journey to Louisiana began carrying her through Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana and several years in Bermuda before returning to the United States. The family finally became residents of Bossier City when her husband retired from the Air Force in 1963. Millie was a "transplanted Yankee" as she liked to tell everyone. She worked Rubenstein's Department Store and later for Dillard's when Pierre-Bossier Mall opened. She never met a stranger. She made many friendships over the years in Bossier and cherished those friendships.
Millie loved the beach! The family vacation was in Florida every year. When the grandchildren came along, it was the first place they were taken! Everyone must have a tan! Up until her late her 80's, Millie was still tanning but not in Florida, as she had discovered the "tanning beds"! Many memories were made in Pensacola.
She was a tap dancer and ballerina in younger years, always participating in a recital in Massachusetts. Her special little dancer, Chloe Thomason, came to entertain her weekly and keeping her updated with what Vicki's Dancers were doing! Chloe loved grandma and thought she was such an awesome lady. Her great-grandson, Rayne serenaded her nightly with his piano playing. His daily practice was a blessing to her as she loved to listen to him play unless it interfered with her NFL game!
. After a short hospital stay, she wanted to come home to be with her family. Her goal was to celebrate her birthday with family and friends. Millie's 96th birthday was celebrated with family and numerous friends. Her extended "Thomas Family" family Christmas party was celebrated at her home on December22. Christmas Day was spent with her immediate family consisting of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her goal complete, Millie knew she could now rest and go home to be the Lord.
She wanted to say a special "thank you" to Khieran for caring for her in her last days. Also, a special thanks to Robin and Chenita with Amedisys Hospice for their loving care as she had already developed a relationship with them in the short time she knew them.
Honoring Mille as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Keary Thomas and Kristopher Bradford; great-grandson, Rayne Duque, and friends, Michael Howell, Mike "Dude" Nix and Stacy Ray Wright. Honorary pallbearer will be great-grandson, Brendan Bradford.
