Irving Gutin, 84, of Boca Raton, Florida and formally of North Hampton, New Hampshire passed away on Sunday, November 06, 2016 at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Irving graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1954. After graduation he served his country with the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was involved with the prisoner exchange during his service.
A native of New York City, Irving and his wife Barbara relocated to New Hampshire in the early 1980s when he became head of mergers and acquisitions at Tyco International, Ltd. During his tenure from 1979 to 2003, Tyco grew from $200 million in annual sales to a multinational, Fortune 100 Company, with sales of over $40 Billion, employing more than 250,000 people worldwide. The Gutins relocated with TYCO to Boca Raton in 1998.
Irving was an active and ardent supporter of Boca Raton Regional Hospital's mission of providing top quality care to ensure the health and well-being of the community and improve quality of life. Irving along with his wife Barbara were the first to recognize the need for wide-ranging stroke program at BRRH. In 2008, they made a significant donation to fund the program. Today it is a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, one of only 20 of its kind in the State of Florida.
The Irving and Barbara C. Gutin Center for Robotic Surgery was established at BRRH after Barbara was diagnosed with a growth that required robotic surgery not available at BRRH. The Gutins funded the purchase of two daVinci robotic surgical systems along with a simulator that allows surgeons to train on the robot. A third robot was recently added to the center.
Irving was also a member of the Board of Trustees of both the Boca Raton Regional Hospital and the Foundation. In addition to the hospital, Irving devoted himself to suicide prevention and education, after his son committed suicide in 1995. He also supported Family Promise, a program for the homeless, as well as many other local organizations in Florida and New Hampshire.
In addition to his loving wife Barbara, Irving is survived by his daughters Nina Gutin and Cheryl Elliott, his granddaughters Brooke and Alana Elliott and Jamie Gutin.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home, 1100 North Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
