Isaac, "Ike" Brown Sherwin, age 94 and longtime resident of Berea OH and recent resident of the Brethren Retirement Community of Greenville OH passed away at 7:45 pm on November 27.2016 after an extended battle with cancer.
He was one of 6 children born on June 29 1922 to the dear late Albert and Agnes (Brown) Sherwin. Ike's late wife of 66 years, Betty Adele Sherwin (Grumbling) was his high school sweetheart in Barnesboro Pennsylvania where they both were born and raised. Ike and Betty married after Ike's WWII service in the Pacific Theater. Ike went to war at age 18 and his service took him around the world and ultimately landed him in some of the most intense fighting in Burma and India. After he returned from war and married, he moved his family to the Cleveland area following his wife's family to N. Royalton. He found work as a partner in a painting business until Ike eventually got a job selling pharmaceutical and medical supplies. All of Ike's early years were formative for his love of God, family and country and that love had a profound influence on everyone who knew him and everything he did.
Now that he is passed, Ike will be missed by many but especially by his two daughters, Gail Peters (Kent) and Rebecca Mistak (E James) along with four grandchildren. Ike is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. His family is grateful for his love and devotion to them and to his wife. Also with gratitude, we remember his always lively sense of humor and passion for living life fully engaged. Ike's interests and hobbies over the years are numerous: harmonica, hunting, fishing, camping, softball, tennis, racket ball and golf. Most of all, his family and friends know of his love and gratitude for the message of faith in Christ Jesus new life. New Life for him began in this life and now this life is fully realized.
The family invites friends to visit them on Friday December 2, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Berea Baptist Church prior to the service which begins at 11:00 AM (Arrangements by the Zechar-Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville and Baker,-Osinski- Kensinger Funeral Homes Berea OH.) I was just starting my devotion and I began to sing in my heart Ps 103. I could picture Ike leading our worship with, Bless the LORD , O My Soul. I could hear his voice. This was such a devout brother in Christ. Can't wait for the reunion!

I was lucky to know Ike for a short while as a Nurse at the Brethren Home.
He was easy to love. His first concern was to ask me if I knew Jesus. He shared some of his War years with me. I was there the night he passed to be with our Lord. I know he went to be with many of the people he had told me about.
I am Thankful for my short encounter with Ike. Annie Sonner

Ike was a great brother, one to look up to. He loved the Lord and served Him unceasingly. He is my Hero and I love him. Our weekly talks will be missed but I know where he is and I'll see him again.

Uncle Ike and Aunt Betty were great examples of godly character loved by all. We always appreciated being part of the College and Career class led by Uncle Ike. He and Aunt Betty mentored so many of us - exciting to see how many are serving the Lord ! Becky and family - so sorry for your loss but rejoicing with you as Uncle Ike and Aunt Betty are with our great Savior. Love and prayers. Rick and Patty
