Ivan Myers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2017.

Ivan Lee Myers was born in Cortez, Colorado on April 30, 1941 to Nolen and Frances Myers. His relationship with his parents was foundational in who Ivan became as a man. He loved his younger brother Lyle and many times told stories of growing up together and the life lessons they learned along the way.

In 1960 the Myers family moved to Burley, Idaho where Ivan met and married the girl next door and they added four children to their union. Ivan loved his children and always made himself available to them. He gave unselfishly of his time, talent and treasures to make their days a little better. Ivan loved to sing and share his silly songs with his children and grandchildren; two of his favorites being "Dentyne" and "Oh, You Can't Get to Heaven".

Ivan loved Jesus and lived his life as a man of service to his church and the people in it. An electrician by trade he retired from the City of Rupert Electric Department. At church Ivan served as a Pre-school Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, Bus Driver, Choir Member/Song Leader, Maintenance Man and Yes Man. He was the guy people called because they knew he would always say yes. He loved to help people and always came through.

On July 28, 2001 Ivan married the love of his life, Anna Sword. Ivan's time with Anna was easily described as the best years of his life. From the first phone call he was smitten. Their relationship progressed and led to a 5 year courtship and eventually marriage. Ivan and Anna lived in Burley, Idaho while Ivan continued working for the City until his retirement in 2007. Following his retirement they moved to Englewood, Colorado. In retirement, they took many trips to visit life-long friends in Cortez and the Western Slope. To Missouri to see family, and back to Idaho enjoying family, graduations and weddings. Ivan spent many hours puttering in the garage, planting tomato plants and other flowers. Ivan was active in his Church and always looked forward to helping Anna with their Church's weekly Food Bank. Up to the last days, Ivan's eyes would light up whenever Anna was near. He showed his love for her openly, without hesitation and always with great joy. Whenever in a room full of people, Ivan would only see Anna. Their relationship was beautiful; one that Ivan's children all admired. Ivan deeply loved Anna's children as well.

Ivan had health difficulties that would flare up from time to time (sometimes resulting in hospital stays); where after several days the results of the testing would seem to show nothing. In December of 2015 Ivan's health took a severe downturn, several weeks in the hospital were followed by months in rehab at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center, and that cycle repeated itself again and again. In 2017 Ivan's health continued to decline and he required additional care that moved him to the Legacy Personal Care Center. On June 17th after weeks of further difficulties, Ivan's breathing became labored. At 4:30 pm he took his last breath and entered into his eternal home with the God he served so faithfully in this life.

Ivan is survived by Anna Sword-Myers, Lyle (Ginny) Myers – Sherman Oaks, CA. and families; Darwin (Tina) Myers – Twin Falls, ID, Kay (Russ) Piper – Burley, ID, Charles Myers – Phoenix, AZ, Douglas George (Stacie) Myers – Boise, ID, John Sword – Englewood, CO and Lisa (Brad) Inhulsen – Aurora, CO; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 great grandbabies due in August, and 2 nephews.

Thanks to each of you for your love and support in this time. The family has asked, in lieu of flowers you make a donation to either The Denver Rescue Mission or Samaritans Purse in remembrance of Ivan L Myers.

In short, Dad was a great man. He always went above and beyond for us kids and the people around us. He taught us many great lessons along the way....How to love our wife as Christ loved the church, how to be a man of character when no one is looking, how to put others needs in front of our own wants, how to love Jesus through action in our daily lives. We are so thankful for those lessons and the man who taught them. Anna and Dad made the perfect couple. Their love radiated where ever they went. We are so grateful for Anna, John and Lisa and the entire Sword and Inhulsen families and the love of Jesus that they showed my Dad for the last 21 years or so. They showed that same kind of love to my own family and the Myers family as a whole. The care and devotion they showered on Dad will never be forgotten. What a beautiful picture it is of Dad stepping from the hand of his lovely bride toward the hand of our Savior where he was made whole in mind and body once again. I love you Dad!!

It has been my pleasure to have had Ivan and Anna in my life. Ivan and I had such a good time Sundays with the offerings, he was such a cut up and we teased each other unmercifully. He was so dedicated to Anna and his children, you could see the love in his eyes and hear it in his voice. I will miss him greatly.

God brought you together in love. And know its time Ivan went home. Time with your love is never enough. That doesn't mean the pain of him leaving you is not there but its fine to grieve. Jesus did three times. and He will be with you.
