JT Mars was born on January 26, 1920 in Paris, Arkansas and passed away quietly and peacefully on April 12, 2014 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann and both of his parents and brothers and sisters. He grew up in Paris where he met and married Barbara. They were together for 61 years until Barbara's death in 2011. JT signed up to serve his country the day after Pearl Harbor Day, December 8, 1941 and was proud to spend his 4 years in the service of the Navy. He returned to Oklahoma to raise his children and remained there until his death. JT retired from FAA as an electrician and then spent his retirement working at various hospitals around Oklahoma maintaining their generators and other general equipment. He recently made Legends Assisted Living Center his home. JT is survived by his 4 children and their spouses: Marilyn and Dennis Odom, Tommy and Vicky Mars, Robert and Sherry Mars, and Jeff and Susan Mars. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. The most important legacy JT left to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was the importance of an education. One standout achievement for JT was the chance to go to Purdue University while in the Navy to study electrical engineering for a period of time, even though he had not had the opportunity to finish his formal education. Even after that time he was a proud Boilermaker (only equaled with his enthusiasm for Oklahoma State University). He urged all his family to take advantage of every educational opportunity because of his belief that more education meant a better life. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren benefited immensely from his wise counsel. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 18, 2014 at Sunny Lane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Myrtle Masonic Lodge #145, Reading is Fundamental or the charity of your choice.
