Obituary

J. Michael Griffin passed away on August 18, 2014 in Epoch of Brewster, Brewster, MA after a brief illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 14, 1934. Upon his graduation from St. Augustine Diocesan High School in Brooklyn, NY he entered the order of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1950. Michael was a graduate of the Catholic University of America and held Masters Degrees from Manhattan College and New York University. His life as a teaching Christian took him many directions. J. Michael Griffin passed away on August 18, 2014 in Epoch of Brewster, Brewster, MA after a brief illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 14, 1934. Upon his graduation from St. Augustine Diocesan High School in Brooklyn, NY he entered the order of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1950. Michael was a graduate of the Catholic University of America and held Masters Degrees from Manhattan College and New York University.

His life as a teaching Christian took him many directions. He became principal of St. Gabriel's School in Queens, NY, principal of St. Cecilia School in Brooklyn, NY, Commandant of Cadets at LaSalle Military Academy on Long Island, principal of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, NY, and principal of Bishop Bradley and Trinity High Schools in Manchester, NH.

In 1974, he made the decision to join the secular world and pursue a different lifestyle. He married the former Angela Alosa of Concord, NH and together they ventured into the business world by becoming General Managers of Green Mountain Kenworth in Shelburne, Vermont. Michael retired in 1999 and moved to Eastham, MA to be near his family.

He was an active member of the Parish of St. Joan of Arc, Orleans, MA and Vice President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He recently was presented with the Top Hat Award of which he was very proud. Michael was also a guide at the Museum of Natural History in Brewster, MA. He enjoyed time with his nieces and nephews and their children and yearly vacations to York Beach, Maine.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Angela in 1984, his brothers, Donald and Brian, and his parents, John and Mary Griffin.

He is survived by his sister, Maureen, sister-in-law Mary, his niece Laurene, nephews, Stephen and Mark; brother-in-law, Joe Alosa and his wife Carol Rosa and Bernadette Alosa and several nieces and nephews.

His visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 5-8pm in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10am in St. Joan of Arc Church, Canal Road, Orleans, MA.
