Oma you will always be missed. And you will always be in our hearts. You shared many stories with me and my children and we loved them all. We will miss your cooking and baking and your custard...mmm .I am just sorry that my son never really got to know you as he reminds me so much of Jack some times full of life and spunk.
We will meet again someday but until then give Jack a big hug from all of us and remember we all love you .

My Oma was kind, sweet, and full of so many stories. She told me about Holland and what it was like during the second World War, and I always wanted to know more. To this day my interest in World War II remains. I have a book written by a relative of ours about our family's role in helping Jews flee the country and escape to hiding, about Vught, about Holland from an underground policeman's point of view. I baked with her all the time when I was younger. Chiffon cakes were her favourite to teach me. We baked so much that when I was 8, I knew how to make these cakes, egg cookies, sugar cookies, and so many other things off by heart. She also taught me that "dick vaughan" (if my spelling is correct) means "fat pig" in Dutch. I played her organ all the time, played with my toys downstairs while she was knitting dishclothes and socks and hats for the family. She's led one amazing life. I wish I could have been there to say my goodbye and tell her that I loved her one more time, but she didn't need to be told again. She died knowing her family loved her, and went on to a world where she will feel nothing but love and happiness. She will look down on us and feel proud of who we are, and we will be proud that we have lived her on. Oma, I miss you so much, and I'm so sorry you've passed on, but that's exactly what it is.... passing on. There's more than we know to life, and so much more to death. You've touched my life in so many ways, and I swear to live it out as best I can. I'll see you in Heaven, Oma.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

I Thought Of You Today
I thought of you today,
But that is nothing new.
I thought of you yesterday
And will tomorrow, too.
I think of you in silence
And make no outward show.
For what it meant to lose you
Only those who love you know.
Remembering you is easy,
I do it everyday.
It's the heartache of losing you
That will never go away.
In Loving Memory Of My Oma Who Went To Heaven on August 6, 2010.
