Jack attended Newton Booth School and California Junior High School, graduating in 1943 from McClatchy High School. As a teenager, he played saxophone and clarinet in the Sacramento big band, the Melodiers. After graduation he joined the Army to serve in World War II, landing at the Port of Dulag during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. He was on the beach when Gen. Macarthur returned. Jack received a commendation for his heroic efforts to maintain radio communication between the supply ships and the combat units "under adverse weather conditions and enemy air attacks." Upon discharge, Jack returned to Sacramento and entered Sacramento State College (now California State University at Sacramento) during its second year of operation, graduating in 1950 with a Business degree. His first job was with the Prudential Insurance Company, but he soon joined Norris, Beggs and Simpson, a West Coast mortgage banking, real estate and property management company. As the NB&S Regional Manager and Vice-President, he was instrumental in financing the IBM Building on Capitol Mall and the Downtown Plaza Shopping Center. He also financed the first two high rise apartment buildings in Sacramento at 7th & O Streets and 4100 Folsom Blvd. He managed and then facilitated the sale of El Dorado Hills, at the time one of the largest real estate projects in El Dorado County. He also contributed to the development of the 70 acre Sacramento Industrial Park and managed Country Club Centre at Watt and El Camino and the Teichert Building on American River Drive. After retirement, Jack enjoyed attending college baseball and soccer games at CSUS. He and his wife traveled to several World Cup Soccer games. They especially enjoyed trips to Italy with their children, grandchildren, cousins and friends. Jack served as the second Alumni President for Sacramento State College and as President for both the Sacramento Mortgage Bankers' Association and the North Area Junior Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the McClatchy High School Class of '43 Reunion Committee, and the CSUS Elderhostel Advisory Committee. He established two athletic scholarships for CSUS Business majors in baseball and soccer. In 2011, he was named Alumnus of the Year by the CSUS College of Business Administration. Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clee, by his children Katherine, Stephen and wife Rosemary, and Tracy Stewart and husband Robert, and by his grandchildren Farrar Clee and Margaret Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack H. and Anna Bertolucci of Sacramento. During his life, Jack attended Catholic churches at Holy Spirit, Our Lady of the Assumption, and St. Mary's. He was a strong family man, involved in many ways with his children, grandchildren and large extended family. Memorial gifts can be made to the Jack Bertolucci Scholarships at Sacramento State.
