Missionary Eulis "Jack" Cates, 91, a resident of Sophia and an Army Veteran of World War II; Jack was a Minister Missionary for most of his life. He worked for over 52 years in the US and Jamaica building churches and homes for the underprivileged. He was born Sept. 10, 1922 and raised in the Haw River area of Alamance County. A loving father and husband, he will be missed by all. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Eulis Jasper.Cates, Sr.; his mother, Clara Carter Cates; by Frances Rippy Cates, his wife of 69 years; by his son, Carlis Cates; his grandson, Aaron Andrews and by his sister, Elizabeth McIntosh. Missionary Eulis "Jack" Cates, 91, a resident of Sophia and an Army Veteran of World War II; Jack was a Minister Missionary for most of his life. He worked for over 52 years in the US and Jamaica building churches and homes for the underprivileged. He was born Sept. 10, 1922 and raised in the Haw River area of Alamance County. A loving father and husband, he will be missed by all.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Eulis Jasper.Cates, Sr.; his mother, Clara Carter Cates; by Frances Rippy Cates, his wife of 69 years; by his son, Carlis Cates; his grandson, Aaron Andrews and by his sister, Elizabeth McIntosh.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Cecilia Leftwich Cates of the home, his daughters, Mavis Cates Holliday and husband, Daniel, Phyllis Cates Andrews and her fiance' Ed Guthrie, Iris Cates Gibson and husband Ken; step-children, James R, Barbee and wife, Jody, Howard Barbee, Sherry Barbee Jones and husband Hudson, Mary Lynn Barbee Jessup and husband Chuck, Beth Barbee Mullis; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great grandchildren and his beloved brother, Jim Cates of Virgina.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Bob Laughlin, Vice-president of Clearview Ministries, Reverend Clyde Lowery of Fayetteville, pastor of Church of the Bridegroom and Reverend Harold Blair of Jamica, WI. The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Jack memory to Clearview Ministries; 3265 Marlboro Church Rd., Sophia, NC 27350
