Obituary

Jack E. Downs, 90, of Memphis, died September 7, 2013. He was born in Charleston, S.C., the son of Leo and Pauline Downs. He was a WWII Navy and Korean War medic attached to the USMC Regiment and past vice president of the West Tennessee Purple Heart Association. Mr. Downs was a Master Mason with Desoto Lodge #299, a youth baseball coach for many years and one of the founders of the Parkway Village Youth Football League and an active member of Central Church in Collierville. Jack E. Downs, 90, of Memphis, died September 7, 2013. He was born in Charleston, S.C., the son of Leo and Pauline Downs. He is survived by his children, Jackie Nichols (Jim) of Memphis, Greg Downs of Cordova, and Cathy Mansel (Wayne) of Olive Branch, MS.; his brother, Paul Downs of Chapin, S.C., five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Downs and his sister, Leo Shepard. The family will receive friends Monday evening, September 9, from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue with the service 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Memorial Gardens on Germantown Rd. Memorials may be sent to the West Tennessee Purple Heart Association or Central Church in Collierville.
