Dr. Jack a. Graves, Professor Emeritus at California State University, Stanislaus, passed away on February 4, 2013. Dr. Graves was born in Sandston, Virginia in 1929. He earned his bachelor's degree, with distinction, from Arizona State University, and his master and doctoral degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In his tenure at CSUS, he was the coordinator of the Reading Specialist Credential Program and advisor to students studying for the M. A. Degree in Reading. He designed and created the Reading Improvement Center, which assisted area elementary school...
Dr. Jack a. Graves, Professor Emeritus at California State University,
Stanislaus, passed away on February 4, 2013. Dr. Graves was born in Sandston, Virginia in 1929. He earned his bachelor's degree, with distinction, from Arizona State University, and his master and doctoral degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In his tenure at CSUS, he was the coordinator of the Reading Specialist Credential Program and advisor to students studying for the M. A. Degree in Reading. He designed and created the Reading Improvement Center, which assisted area elementary school children in improving their reading capabilities.
Dr. Graves was an elementary teacher for six years, an elementary principal for five years, and a professor at CSUS for 23 years. He had many articles and reviews in professional journals, and was the author of three children's books: WHAT IS CALIFORNIA SEA OTTER?, WHAT IS A CALIFORNIA GRAY WHALE? and ONE MORE TIME. During his professional career he taught in the U.S. Dependents School System in Turkey and France, and served as principal for two years at the Dreux Air base, France. He acted as advisor to the school system in Pago Pago, located in American Samoa.
There will be no memorial or funeral service; last rites will be at sea as his remains are scattered there. Remembrances can be sent to: Charcot-Marie-Tooth Muscular Atrophy Association, 270 Chesnut Parkway, Chester, PA 19013.
