Jack Leon Hayes passed away on June 21, 2014 at the age of 83. He was born on August 16, 1930 in Clay County, IL to Roger and Velma (Forrest) Hayes. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Mary Hayes; and brother, Robert Hayes; survived by his loving wife, Norene Kay Hayes; daughters, Teresa Kay Franks, her husband Stephen Rease and Janet Rivers, her husband Jeff; son, Chad Eric Hayes, his wife Rachael; brothers, Ronald Hayes, Edward Hayes, David Hayes, and Daniel Hayes; sister, Nancy Fickus; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Jack entered military service, enlisting in the United States Army, on October 5, 1951. He served in Korea as a medic and chauffeur. He was honorably discharged on August 19, 1953 with recognition of meritorious service. He was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Overseas Bars, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. After his discharge from active duty, Jack served as a reservist in the United States Army until February 13, 1960.
Upon his return from Korea Jack worked with his father helping with the family's farm implement and harvesting business. In 1955 he went to work for Best National Homes where he served until 1976 as their transportation director. From 1976 to 1979 Jack owned an automotive business. He worked in transportation management and the truck driving industry from 1980 until his retirement in 2010.
Jack's entire life centered around his family. He married Kay on February 22, 1957 and their union endured 57 years. Together, Jack and Kay raised their 3 children and also fostered nearly 30 children. There was nothing that they would not do for their children and grand-children.
Jack had a quiet yet unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. With gentleness, kindness and selflessness he lived out his faith. He served his savior for decades in various capacities through the local church. He was a leader and a steward that never sought recognition. He left an example that we should all consider.

There are some men who say of themselves that they are great or endeavour in life to attain this position but Jack Hayes was never like this. He was a man who humbly walked before God and man, his promotion is truly from the Lord. He had favour in God's eyes and man's. He truly was a great man and will be greatly missed.
Until that day when we shall see you again Jack and we will forever be with the Lord. What a glorious day that will be and this is the reality of Jack's faith - God has promoted him to a much better place but for now we will miss him.

My Grandpa was the best. I will miss him a lot. I have so many special memories of him growing up. I will always remember him waiting for us at the back door everytime we came to visit. He had the best smile. I couldn't have asked for a better Grandpa. Wish I could have had more time to spend with him. I love you Grandpa!
