Jacob G. “Opossum” McDowell, of Liberty Missouri was born on July 9th 1958, at North Kansas City Hospital. Jacob passed away at the home on Sunday, November 27th, 2016.
Jacob was survived by his wife, Leann, of 37 years; 3 children Jacob L. McDowell and wife Audrey of Kansas City, Rebbecca Perry and husband Michael of Grand Junction, CO and Amanda McDowell of Liberty; 8 grandchildren, Mike, Aden, Anna, J.R., Aleigha, Adam, Grayson and Ashlynn; 4 siblings, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Jacob graduated from Liberty High School and immediately joined the Ironworker’s Union Local 10 where he was known as Opossum (a nickname given by his father). Jacob worked as an Ironworker for Local 10 for 33 years before he retired in 2009.
Jacob always enjoyed hunting morel mushrooms, deer hunting as well as fishing. He was often caught stirring up trouble with his grandchildren. Jacob was a tough but loving man that was dearly devoted to his family.
Jacob was preceded in death by his parents Edgar W. and Rose Marie McDowell and 2 sisters.
The McDowell Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Children’s Tumor Foundation www.ctf.org
Services will be held at St. James Catholic Church, Liberty Missouri Monday, December 5th Visitation 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. Memorial Mass 12:30p.m.
