Jacob H. Rothenberger Jr., 90, of Colebrookdale Township, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Jake, as he was known to many, was one of 13 children of the late Jacob H. Rothenberger Sr. and Ella (Croll). Born in Colebrookdale Twp., Jake was a lifelong resident of Berks County.
Jake retired in 1988 after 24 years as a construction electrician for IBEW Local 743 of Reading. He also was a filter operator for the Boyertown Water Department, working full-time for 25 years and later 25 years part-time. He attended Harvest Fellowship Church, Boyertown. He was also a member of various fire companies and a lifelong member at Friendship Hook and Ladder, Boyertown. Jake was a member at Boyertown American Legion Post #471, and Gabelsville AA. Jake was an avid outdoorsman, with a passion for fishing, hunting and camping. Baseball was also a passion; he was a big fan of both the Reading and Philadelphia Phillies.
Jake was a US Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving with his wife of 53 years, Elsie (Burkepile) Rothenberger, with whom he resided, are three daughters, Lottie, wife of Ebbin "Skip" Hildenbrand, Boyertown; Alethea, wife of Kenneth Lynch, Spring City; Dorothy, wife of Scott Ziegler, Boyertown; two sons, Jacob H. Rothenberger III, husband of Cheree (Mest), Fleetwood; John W. Rothenberger, at home; two stepdaughters, Mary, widow of Roger Fizz, Reading; Ruth, wife of Lowell McMullen, Hagerstown, MD; 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four sisters, Mary Krause, Ella Krause, Lillie Conrad and Laura Koons.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, 111 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown. Friends will be received from 10 until time of service. The Rev. Barry Parsons will officiate.
Interment will be in Limerick Garden of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to The Center at Spring Street, 200 W. Spring Road, Boyertown, PA 19512.
