Jacqueline Camey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 20, 2012.

"I met Jacqueline Polan in August of 1962 at a company called Emery Air Freight, near Midway airport in Chicago, Illinois. She was from Chicago, her Dad was from Chicago, her Dad was a Chicago City Fireman, and her mother was a seamstress. I was a Farm Boy from central Illinois. I thought my chance of asking her to go out with me were pretty slim, but to my suprise, she said yes and we started dating, and in January of 1963, I asked her to marry me with kind of low hopes since we had only known each other for 5 months. But my hopes turned to elation when she said YES. We were married on September 28, 1963. We lived in Chicago and suburbs until 1980. Our son Tim was born in 1964, son Tom born 1966, and daughter cathy in 1968. In 1980 we sold our home in South Elgin, Illinois, and rented a truck and trailer from U-Haul and moved to Citrus Heights, California. Jacki had worked as a travel agent in Elgin, Illinois, and I was a salesman for a printing company. Neither of us has jobs, but we looked forward to the move. Jacki found travel agent job quickly and I found a job with a Stockton printing company. About 1982, Jaci got a job with California State Auto Association (AAA) as a travel agent and was with AAA for 23 years. We moved to Rocklin in 2004. Jackie got the horrible diagnosis of AIS (also known as Lou Gehrig disease) about 3 years ago. She fought as hard as she could against the disease, but on April 20 she lost the battle and I lost my Girl Friend, love of my life for 48 1/2 years. May God help me and my family survive without her loving support, and I can look forward to meeting her again."

My oldest and dearest friend--we didn't have to see each other or talk each week but when we did visit over the years, we just picked up where we left off. We met in fourth grade and I am so lucky to have had Jackie as my friend all these years. We had many firsts together-Cubs games, polio shots, public library cards, social security cards, double-dating, stood up to each others weddings, held her hand when she was in labor with Tim, playing cards with our husbands, having children and the list goes on. I loved and admired Jackie for so many reasons. She was always courageous, honest, sensible, intelligent, witty, loving and faithful. I will never forget you. Good bye, old friend -- until we meet again. Bonnie

My first memory of Aunt Jackie was sitting on her lap in my parent's kitchen while they played "Clue." I think this was a sign of things to come because she always seemed to love a good board or card game. I think she liked how those games could bring the whole family together, which she was her number one priority. Whenever we visited CA (A LOT less often than she visited us back in Chicago), she always wanted to make sure the whole family did as many things together as possible. I am so thankful our daughter got to meet her and we will share with her how Jackie bravely faced this terrible disease. We love and miss you, Aunt Jackie, and we will see you again some day.

Jackie loved to travel and her visits to numerous locations around the world made her a travel agent ‘extraordinaire'! We jokingly called her our personal travel planner as all we needed to say was “we're thinking of traveling to…… and she'd take it from there.

Family was Jackie's highest priority, and the love she gave to each of us will warm our hearts forever. She was a great sister-in-law and we will cherish all the memories of the past, and we will think of her at every family gathering in the future.

Love,
DeeDee and Jack

Jackie was one of the most knowledgeable travel agents in our company (AAA.) and she was always willing to share her knowledge with others. Her advice was always "right on" and the twinkle in her eye made all conversations wonderful. My heart goes out to her amazing family!

A letter to my Mom :

When I sat down to write this letter, I got got stuck on how to encompass all that needed to said. About all of life's lesson that have been passed on by my Mom. Those same lesson's that are now mine to share, and some how pass on as gracefully as she did. My Mom instilled in me that all things are possible, and to meet life's problems head on. One of life's great gifts are the memories, of the gifts that we get to share, and the challenges that we overcame together. My Mom loved to be with, and have family and friends around her. Not just on the holidays, but anytime or occasion to have a get together. She would always go out of her way to provide for anyone that would come by the house. One recent thanksgiving she helped prepare the meal, and was unable to enjoy it herself. That is the kind of giving and caring spirit she gave without execption. How do you express all the words that come with the care that has been shown from my first day to this day? Rest now, so deeply within my heart, until one day many days from this day, when we will walk side by side hand in hand. As we have done so many days before. Thank you for being my Mom. I will love always.

Aunt Jackie blessed our family in countless ways. She loved us all and was especially crazy about her grandkids. She loved to laugh -- you couldn't be around her and not be happy. I am thankful that her suffering is over, though our family will never be the same without her. Memories of her laughter, her smile, and her funny stories will always bring warmth to my heart. She will be deeply missed.
