James "Jimmy" ODonell Allen, 69, a resident of Grottoes, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. He had not enjoyed good health for the past year. He was born on June 27, 1944 and was the son of Erma Braden Allen of Grottoes and the late James W. Allen, Jr. James graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1963 and was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Linda Layman of Grottoes and JoAnne Hensley and husband, Steve, of McGaheysville; one niece, Diana Housden and husband, Jeremy of Mt. James "Jimmy" ODonell Allen, 69, a resident of Grottoes, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. He had not enjoyed good health for the past year.

He was born on June 27, 1944 and was the son of Erma Braden Allen of Grottoes and the late James W. Allen, Jr.

James graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1963 and was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Linda Layman of Grottoes and JoAnne Hensley and husband, Steve, of McGaheysville; one niece, Diana Housden and husband, Jeremy of Mt. Solon; four nephews, Rick Layman of Raphine, John Hensley, Jr. of Harrisonburg, Jeff Hensley and wife, Leigh, of McGaheysville, and Dan Bartley of Grottoes; two great-nephews, A.J. and Steven Hensley both of McGaheysville; one great-niece, Kaylee Bartley of Harrisonburg; and an uncle, Don Braden and wife, Cheryl, of Chesterfield.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Bartley and his loving grandparents, Ossie and Margaret Braden.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Woodbine Cemetery with Pastor Wayne Wright officiating. There will be no visitation but friends are welcome to call at the homes of his sisters, Linda and JoAnne at any time.

The family wishes to thank the staff at HHRC for the loving care given to Jimmy while a patient there, especially the West Wing.
