James Conklin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2017.

James Conklin, 66, of Davenport passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Runge Mortuary with a Celebration of Life following from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at Fricks, 1402 West 3rd Street, Davenport. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to Kings Harvest no kill animal shelter, Family Resources to help children or the family. Jim was born September 2, 1950 in Davenport to Frank and Josephine Conklin. He graduated from West High School in 1968. Also in 1968 he married the love of his life Vicky Abel. Jim worked many years for Treiber Construction operating heavy equipment. He helped build a lot of the Quad Cities including most of Elmore. The Treiber family helped make his work an enjoyable experience. Jim was a proud member of the local 150 union of operating engineer. He was a hard worker and instilled that in his children. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and riding his Harley's. Baseball was his favorite pastime, both playing and coaching for twelve years at Northwest Little League winning a city championship! As vice president of the Colt League he attended every game. Mostly he greatly loved being with his family and loved them dearly. Left to cherish memories of Jim are his wife of 49 years, Vicky; children, Laura Conklin and Mike Conklin, both of Davenport and Michelle (Bob) Oberlander; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a new great grandchild expected later his year; brothers: Michael (Sherry) Conklin, Bruce and Tim; sisters: Karen, Carol, Marilyn, Jean and Denise; several nieces and nephews; and special buddy his cat, Skeeter. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob, beloved dog, Lady, and beloved cat, Killer. A special thank you to Casey and Josh for always being there and Liam for his laughter, happiness, and brightness that he brings to each day. Thanks to his brother Mike and his son Brian (Tammy) and Kevin Conklin for their love and support. Another big thank you to hospice nurse, Deana, and social worker, Kim, for their great care and compassion. They helped make the heartbreaking day easier.
One of his favorite sayings was "You get out of life what you put into it". His humorous take on his illness "I told you that I was sick". Jim was a loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor. We were very fortunate to have him in our lives. Please remember him with smiles and laughter. Online condolences may be express at www.rungemortuary.com.

Vicki, and Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and father. Jim was a great brother and I will remember his sense of humor. He was a hard worker on and off the job and very well thought of. My sympathies are with your entire family. May Jim rest in peace.
