James A. Cooper, 84, of Greenfield and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on February 28, 1933, in Patterson, MO to Arthur Earnest Cooper and Dorothy Meador Cooper.
During his early years, James lived in southern Missouri and St. Louis. He graduated high school in 1950 and joined the United States Army. He served for three years and was stationed in Alaska the majority of the time. After he was discharged, James returned to St. Louis and worked for A & P Stores and Bakery until they closed. He then moved to Terre Haute and worked for Lovelace Trucking and transferred to Indianapolis until they closed. He worked for various trucking companies until he retired from the Teamsters Union. He was a life member of American Legion Post 500 in Speedway.
James is survived by his children: Kelly Ryan, Cheryl Cooper, James Cooper, and Kevin Cooper; several grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Jenkins of Terre Haute; two brothers, Larry Cooper and wife Sue of Indianapolis and Richard Cooper and wife Connie of Statesville, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shelley Cooper; sisters, Annabell Street, Kathleen Treanor; and a brother, Lowell Cooper.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Lilly officiating. James will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
