Funeral services for James A. Hunter, age 78 of Morristown and formerly of Hammond will be held at 5:00pm on Wednesday June 21, 2017 at the Brier Hill Fire Department with Pastor David Sheppard officiating. His place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park at a later date.
Calling hours will be held also on Wednesday from 3:00pm until the time of the service at the fire hall. Mr. Hunter passed away on Saturday (June 17, 2017) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving is his wife Elaine; three sons Edward (Linda) Hunter of Adams Center, John (Cheryl) Hunter of Hammond, Guy Hunter of Brier Hill; four daughters Laura (Charles) Hierholzer of Hammond, Mary (Peter) Paquette of Morristown, Peggy (Calvin) Randolph of Morristown and Karen (Earl) Hiltz of Clay; A sister Shirley Fuller of Ogdensburg; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Jim was predeceased by two infant sons Timothy & James Hunter; two infant sisters Sharon & Betty Lou Hunter and a brother Jean Hunter.
He was born on Sept 30, 1938 in Hammond NY, a son of the late Murray & Pauline (Catlin) Hunter. He attended Hammond School for his education, and later married Elaine Farrell on Sept 10, 1967 in Dekalb Junction with Rev. Best officiating their marriage.
During his career he was employed at Peretta Meat Packing, Natural Dam Paper Mill, NY Air Brake and Northern Packing. He was a former member of the Black Lake Fish and Game Club and Brier Hill Fire Department. He enjoyed mowing lawns and fixing mowers, fishing, hunting, building go carts for grandchildren, watching movies, joking with others and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
