After retirement Jim learned to play piano and was privileged to play his favorite song, "The Entertainer" on Frank Lloyd Wright's piano at Taliesen West in Phoenix, AZ. Jim also took flying lessons, earned his license as a private pilot and owned three airplanes. He served two years as President of Heritage Federal Credit Union and 15 years as a volunteer preparing taxes for AARP.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marjorie (May) Stanley; and granddaughter, Summer White Lynch.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carey (Schaffer) Stanley; daughter, Jan White and granddaughter, Erika, both of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Nancy Wright of Evansville, IN; brother, Thurman (June) Stanley of FL; great-grandsons, Aidan and Dylan Lynch, both of Chicago; aunt, Helen Stanley; nephew, John (Kelly) Wright; niece, Melinda Vaughn; and cousin, Rev.
