James Edward Majerik (Jim), age 67, passed away Thursday March 27, 2014 after battling Lymphoma. He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Elizabeth Majerik. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Mary Anne Wadley Majerik; daughter Michelle Colbert (Tim) of Sulphur, OK; daughters Allison Majerik Black (Mark Tompkins) and Leigh Lewis (Brian) of Birmingham; son Michael Majerik (Diana) of Cullman, AL; and grandchildren Glenn Lewis and Rose Lewis.
He is also survived by his brothers Paul Majerick (Marie); John T. Majerik (Helen); Bernard Majerik (Theresa); Frank Majerik (Francis); David Majerik; and his sisters Annette M. Kitchen; Mary Buchan (Stuart); Margaret Moody (Steve); and Patsy Byrd (Donnie) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Jim was born on June 17, 1946 and grew up in Pratt City. He graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1964, joined the United States Air Force and served four years during the Vietnam conflict. He attended Florence State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham majoring in Nuclear Medicine and received the highest score nationally on the Nuclear Medicine Technology Board Exam. He worked in research at UAB under Dr. Charles Russell and Dr. Peter Jander. Later, he joined his father in the family business, Jones Machine and Welding Company and spent the remainder of his career there. During retirement he enjoyed spending time on the gulf coast aboard his beloved sailboat "Katie Lee", hunting, fishing, photography, astronomy, traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29th from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. with a celebration of Jim's life following at 3:00 p.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Cara Bondly and Dr. Susan Salter with St. Vincent's as well as Diane Moore, Robin Pickett and Sarah Miller with Optum Hospice for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Bruno Cancer Center, St. Vincent's Birmingham, 910 St. Vincent's Drive, Birmingham, AL 35205 or Friends of the Smokies Tennessee, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37764.

I did not know Mr. Majerik but I met his son Michael several years ago because he and Dianna are friends with my daughter and son. We all live at Smith Lake. I know Mr. Majerik was a fine man because he raised a son like Michael to live, laugh and love !! Michael is a fine man and I know his Dad was proud of the man he is!!
