Life Reflections
For
James Hallingquest III
James Hallingquest III, 54, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 at home in Overland Park, Kansas after a brief illness. James was born November 24, 1962 in Newark, New Jersey to James Walter Hallingquest Jr. and Flossie Mae Keitt Hallingquest. James was the grandson of the late Minnie Lee and James Hallingquest Sr. and the late Lizzie May Keitt.
James' parents moved from Newark, New Jersey to Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1964. At age twelve, James acknowledged hope in Christ at Saint Paul Baptist church and was baptized by Reverend H.T. Williams. James attended public school in Orangeburg where he developed a love for sports. He played football and soccer at Orangeburg–Wilkinson High School and graduated in 1981. Shortly after graduation, James joined the U.S. Army, and served in the 44th Engineering Battalion for twelve years.
After leaving the military, James began his career in Sales and Management. He managed and was part of the sales team at Farmers Furniture in Orangeburg, South Carolina and Presidion Seafood in Charlotte, NC. James moved to Kansas City in 2004 and continued his sales career in auto sales. He was employed by various dealerships in Kansas City. During the last ten years, he was employed by Olathe Ford Lincoln and Shawnee Mission Ford. James enjoyed the camaraderie he shared with all of his co-workers, many whom he called friend.
On October 13, 2006, James married the love of his life, Kelli S. Frey. They were blessed to celebrate ten years of marriage. James was an active member of Mt. Washington Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as a member of the choir. He especially enjoyed singing with a special men's choir called "The Men on the Mount." He also loved to cook and always tried to be "in charge." His humorous personality invoked lots of jokes, laughter and goodwill among family and friends. James was part of a special group of guys who love the Pittsburg Steelers. As an avid Tar Heels fan, James loved wearing his favorite color, Carolina Blue. He was an honorary member of the neighborhood homes association and offered his help on special projects.
