James "Jim" Murphy Palmer, 74, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away on Father's Day, Sunday, June 18, 2017. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 6-8pm., and the funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11am., both at Horis A. Ward – Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. Reverend Jeremy Jones will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, 699 American Legion Road, NE, Conyers, Georgia 30012. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mr. Palmer's son, Jeff and Indra Palmer, who are Christian missionaries in New Zealand. http://wwws.nmsi.org/give/jeff-indra-palmer#.WUgBAoUpDYV
James was born July 17, 1942 to Maxwell Carlton Palmer and Lucy Kate Mack in Covington County, Alabama and raised in the City of Opp. He married Mary Eileen Walter on December 2, 1962 and was married for 46 years and had 4 wonderful children. Mr. Palmer was drafted into the U.S. Army and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Vietnam from August 1966 until September 1967, and finished out his service in K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Michigan. In James' life, he worked at Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac as a parts runner, Tuxedo Glass and Mirror Company, and A & P Grocery Company, before retiring with 25 years from Delta Air Lines as a manager. After retirement, he worked briefly for Delta Staffing Service and Standard Aero Inc. of Tennessee. James' past hobbies included fishing, golfing, and working outdoors.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Eileen Walter Palmer. He is survived by his sister, Beverly Yamonaco; brother, Fabian Palmer; daughter, Belinda Palmer White (Bryan); son, Jeffrey James Palmer (Indra); daughter, Jennifer Palmer Wilson (Chad); son, Jonathan Everett Palmer. He leaves behind grandchildren, Tyler Murphy White, Devyn Renee White, Avani Sarai Palmer, Aniya Sofia Palmer, Aston James Sibal Palmer, Christine Mary Wilson, Tiffany Evelyn Wilson, and Alaina Reese Palmer. He also had a niece, Tina Smith, two nephews, Tony and Frank Yamonaco, and many cousins. Upon death, he was currently married to Sherry Lummus Palmer. Thank you to all our family and friends for your prayers, concerns, and support. In lieu of flowers for James M. Palmer, donations can be made to NMSI New Zealand mission to support the missionary work of his son, Jeff and Indra Palmer.
