WATKINS, JAMES THOMAS "TOMMY", age 78 of Gardendale, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Barbara P. Watkins; parents, Harvey and Orine Watkins; and brothers, Cecil Watkins and Harold Eugene Watkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Naomi Frazier Watkins; sons, William Harold Watkins (Valerie) and Kenneth Enman; daughters, Paula Swafford (Todd), Tommie Lynne Dugger (Jeff), Andrea Catalano (Anthony) and Wendy Enman Hallmark (Chip); brother, William Scott Watkins (Janet); sisters, Naomi Reed, Betty Finley and Kaki Childers (Buddy); 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Tommy was a Deacon and taught Sunday School at Pioneer Baptist Church and lived his life as a shining example for God. He loved dressing as Santa Claus during Christmas and bringing joy to children. Tommy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 35 years. His family will receive friends on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 10-11 AM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel and celebrate his life with a service at 11 AM led by Pastor Darryl Castleberry. Burial will follow at New Prospect Cemetery across from Chalkville First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pioneer Baptist Church 4235 Pinson Valley Parkway Birmingham, AL 35215.
