Mr. Adkins retired from Western Electric after 25 years of valuable service.

He was a soldier in the US Army; a WWII veteran who served in the Battle of the Bulge under the direction of General Patton.
Mr. Adkins had many fine qualities and hobbies. He had a high aptitude for fixing things-a quality he enjoyed sharing with others. He was a wonderful storyteller, a gifted clockmaker, and a true patriot. A devoted father and grandfather, he adored people, especially his family, and spent the last years of his life helping to care for his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his humility, love of conversation, unrelenting spirit, ability to recall facts about almost anything, stories of a bygone era, and love for and service to his country.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Adkins.

He is survived by a sister, Willa Wilson; daughters, Winifred Tucker and Kathy Davis; and grandchildren, Everett Davis and Mary Katherine Davis.

A funeral service will be October 27, 2012, 11:00 am, at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Memorials can be made to the American Federation of the Blind, Attn: Resource Development, 2 Penn Plaza, Suite 1102, New York, NY 10121
