Lanette Africa
It takes awhile for the reality to set in that we'll never hear your voice again. I think back to all the things you taught by example. I remember the way you could communicate without words better than anyone I've ever known. I'm thankful we had you for so long. You were a fine example of a father, family man, and loyal American whose integrity was unquestionable. Thank you for loving us and for being our Dad.

Mr. Africa was a wonderful music teacher. At Brewbaker, he refused to let me repeat a beginner's class when my schedule was in conflict with the advanced class and gave up his planning time every day to teach me advanced theory from his college textbooks. He encouraged me and challenged me and had a wonderful, unflappable demeanor--a requirement for the best high school teachers.

In Dad's latter years, he spent much of his time reaching out and helping others, family, neighbors, and friends. My thanks to those who in his final few months, reached out to help him.
