Dr. James S. Albritton passed away peacefully on December 12, 2013 at West Florida Hospital at the age of 71.

He was born in West Monroe, Louisiana, the eldest son of Walter Lee and Ella May Albritton.

James attended the University of Bordeaux in Bordeaux, France where he received his Baccalaureate, Masters, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Political Sociology and Criminology.

After finishing his education, James spent the majority of his career in higher education, where he greatly contributed his vast wealth of knowledge and skills to the following academic programs: Santa Barbara University, Marquette University, Mercer University, Troy State University, and North Georgia University from which he retired.

Professor James Albritton was a honorary member of the Fraternal Order of Police and held memberships to The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), and Criminal Justice Educators (CJE). Furthermore he contributed many articles, journals and reviews to the field of his expertise and was considered by the University of Toulouse as their official American Correspondent for the Center for Study & Research on the Police. James was particularly proud of his invitation to participate at Oxford University Round Table in March of 2006.

James will sadly be missed by those he leaves behind to cherish his memory: wife (Olena), brother (Tom) sister (Joella), four daughters ( Caroline, Sarah, Alene, and Judith) son (Julian) two step daughters and two grand children as well as a host of friends and colleagues.
