Charlotte, NC - James Reid Alexander, 92, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Haven in Highland Creek in Charlotte.
Mr. Alexander was born July 15, 1921 in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Clayton Augusta Alexander and Eleanora Blakely Alexander. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church. He owned and operated Alexander's Grocery and Lawn Mower Repair for many years. He was active in his church and enjoyed quilting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel C. Alexander; second wife, Jewell Dulin Alexander; two sisters, Ruth A. Burrows and Helen A. Sullivan; and a brother, Ray W. Alexander.
Survivors include his daughters, Patrica A. Bryant and her husband, David, and Esther Rae Brown, and her fiancé, Henry B. Hogg, III; grandchildren, Michael W. Brown, Jr., Kevin M. Brown, Kristin W. Lachapelle, and Bryan L. Washam; a sister, Doris M. Price; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will gather at the funeral home to receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 in the Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Lee Koontz officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to either Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region (www.donatehospice.org) or to the Alzheimer's Foundation (www.alzfdn.org) in memory of James Reid Alexander.
