James Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 3, 2013.

James W. Anderson, Jr., 85, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 12 noon at Bethel Baptist Church in Brandon. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Anderson served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a loyal employee for Delta Airlines for 42 years. At Delta, Junior worked his way through the ranks where he finally reached the position of aircraft mechanic. He was known by everyone he knew to be a hard worker and received special recognition from Delta for not missing a day of work for ten years straight. Junior will be remembered by his family as always having something to tinker with in his shop. Whether it be a car, motorcycle, or airplane; he could fix it and if he couldn't fix it then it was definitely broken. He was also a long-time member of the American Legion Post- 112.

Mr. Anderson is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Frances Eley Anderson; and brothers, Bobby Kane Anderson and Carlton Franklin Anderson.

He is survived by his son Dale Anderson (Libby); brothers, Jerome Berry Anderson (Anne), Roland Hugh Anderson (June), and Elton Hayes Anderson (Molly); sisters, Barbara Dell Colson (Shelby) and Maxine A. Nolen (Aubrey); grandchildren, Jennifer Layton O'Neal (David) and Walter "Little Dale" Anderson; one great grandchild, Gerald "Thomas" Maguire, III, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Corry and Merle Harms

Dale, Libby, and all the family, Our hearts and prayers are with you. He and Frances were wonderful friends and neighbors when we lived in the Bethel community. And, Corry and he worked many hours, often on freezing, cold nights, keeping Delta planes flying out on time.

My condolences to the family members of Andy. His ability to solve some complex sheet metal repairs was what I found most interesting. First he would make a rough drawing and if satisfied a cardboard or paper cutout of the item. After deciding it would work he went ahead and made it. The main point was his patience from start to finish with any project. This was an excellent addition to have in your ranks. He will be missed.

I worked with Andy many years while at Delta. Andy was very knowledgeable in aircraft sheet metal repair of damaged aircraft. Andy was always there to help when you needed a helping hand to do a repair. Andy helped in the repair of my 1939 Chevrolet and spent a lot of hours with me repairing the body the way you would repair an airplane with rivets not bondo. I will forever be thankful to Andy for his helping hand. We will miss Andy.
