Obituary

James M. Andrews, 85, died peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's. Jim grew up in the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Geneva College, Carnegie Tech and Cleveland State. He served as a Marine Corps pilot, flying eleven different aircraft, followed by a long career as a professional engineer. Jim was an avid and faithful volunteer for several civic and church organizations. He loved playing bridge and swimming. Jim won many medals while in college and at the North Carolina Senior Games. James M. Andrews, 85, died peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's. Jim grew up in the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Geneva College, Carnegie Tech and Cleveland State. He served as a Marine Corps pilot, flying eleven different aircraft, followed by a long career as a professional engineer. Jim was an avid and faithful volunteer for several civic and church organizations. He loved playing bridge and swimming. Jim won many medals while in college and at the North Carolina Senior Games. He was a charter member and lector at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He joined the Peak City Singers, Golden Age Club, and Apex Historic Society. Jim, a loving husband and father, is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dorothy; his children, Paul Andrews and wife, Zita of Cleveland Heights, OH, and Margaret Andrews of Euclid, OH; grandchildren, Kate, Alden, Evan, and Tobias; step children; Marge Pryately, John Pryately and wife Nancy, Chris Pryately and husband, Alex Echols and Virginia Collins and husband Jim; step grandchildren; Andrew, Robert, Richard, Emily, Christine and Gregory; cousins, Phyllis Knoerl, Pat Gabele, and Jim Edson. Jim preceded in death by his first wife, Mary. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will forever be in our hearts. A memorial mass will be held January 24, 2011 at 1:30 pm at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. Mary Magdalene School Library, 625 Magdala Place, Apex, NC 27502 or to Camp Lejeune Fisher House, 4 Recovery Way, Camp Lejeune, NC 28549.
