HAYES - James W. "Sonny Boy" Andrus, 75, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010 in a local hospital.
He was born and lived in Hayes all his life. He retired from Calcasieu Parish School Board. He was Catholic in faith. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, turtle hunting and working in his garden.
Survivors include his wife, Belinda Andrus of Hayes; children, Darrell J. Andrus (Monica) of Lake Charles, Kenneth W. Andrus (Phyllis) of Bell City, Leslie R. Andrus of Hayes, Shannon L. Prejean (John) of Lacassine; sisters, Rita Aucoin of Lake Charles, Bertha Lee Hebert of Hayes, Louella "Pat" Crowder of Hayes; aunt, Mary Broussard of Beaumont, TX; step sons, Anthony Daley of Evangeline, Karl Benoit of Evangeline, Dwayne Benoit of Monroe, Richard Benoit of Hayes; grandson, Jeremy Andrus; granddaughters, Allison (Chet), Erin Todd (Jeremy), Caitlin Andrus, Yvette Maple (Timmy), Rachelle Fontenot (Allen), SadieJo Prejean; great granddaughters, Taylor and Aubrey Fontenot and numerous step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elir and Mable Andrus; his first wife and mother of his children, Mildred Crader Andrus; a brother, J.C. Andrus and a half brother, Poker Jim Andrus.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in Hayes Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. til time of service.
