James B. Bateman, 86, passed away, Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at West River in Evansville, IN. He was born January 23, 1927 in Curley, KY.
Jim grew up in Kentucky and moved to Evansville in his teen years. He then joined the Air Force. After returning from the Air Force, he worked for the railroad and later worked for Servel. In the 1950's, he began working construction and started ARC Construction in 1969. He was recently awarded a lifetime membership for serving 50 years in the local bricklayers. Jim was also a member of the VFW Post #1114, Riverbend, Owls, and First Commander of the AMVETS Post #84. He enjoyed spending winters in Clearwater, FL, watching IU basketball, raising tomatoes, and visiting covered bridges. He also loved spending time with his family. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Bateman; brothers, Ivan Bateman, Joseph Bateman; and sister, Helen Buttram.
James is survived by wife, Ann Bateman; sons, Danny (Pat) Bateman, Chris (Melody) Bateman; daughters, Janice (Charlie) Board, Rose Ann (Randy) Bunch; grandchildren, Jason (Erica) Bateman, Jamie (Kendra) Bateman, Jeremie (Ashley) Bateman, Kyler (Ashley) McReynolds, Logan McReynolds, Brennan McReynolds, Erin Hobgood, Andrea (Hans) Schur, Kevin (Andrea) Hobgood, Brenton & Emily Bateman, Ava Emmons, Karissa Emmons, Brianna Bunch, Joey Foster; great-grandchildren, Zoie, Drew, Grace, Parker, Gemma; sisters, Katie Buttram, Shirley (Pat) Bryan; sisters-in-law, Jeannette (Gene) Paulin, Ethel Kuzma, Betty Kuzma, and Margaret Bateman.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1626 Glendale Ave., Evansville, IN 47712.
Funeral Services will be 9:00AM, Friday, April 5, 2013, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, officiate by Fr. David Nunning, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 2:00PM until 8:00PM at Alexander West Chapel.

Sorry to see that James has passed away. I was Manager of the Pella of Evansville Division of Lensing Wholesale from 1971 to 1982. My family also lived on Stringtpwn Road just North of Stringtown School for almost 30 years.
Having buried my own 1st and 2nd Dear Wives, I do know how to and will PRAY for your family during this DIFFICULT time.
